The University of Nairobi hosted the 2016 World Blood Donor Day celebrations yesterday.
The colorful event held in partnership with Kenya National Blood Transfusion Service (KNBTS) was held at the Great Court. World Blood Donor Day is an annual celebration designed to create and increase awareness on benefits of blood donation. It also creates awareness on safe blood for transfusion. The theme for this was, “Blood Connects Us All”
Speaking during the event, Vice Chancellor, Prof. Peter Mbithi called upon the university of Nairobi community to save lives by donating blood. He said this was the only way of giving back to the community. Prof. Mbithi also lauded the Kenya Red Cross-UoN chapter for promoting blood donation drives across various campuses.
KNBTS director, Dr. Margaret Oduor profusely thanked blood donors for saving lives every day. She urged many Kenyans to come forward and join the blood donations initiatives.
Also present during the event was Prof. Enos Njeru, Principal, College of Humanities and Social Sciences (CHSS) among other top university managers, students and staff.
