In light of the growing necessity for efficient and effective communication in both local and international settings, the department of Communication Skills and Studies hereby proposes a degree course, Bachelor of Arts in Communication Science. It is against this backdrop that the Communication Skills and Studies Department is proposing a degree course in Communication Science, which is skills-based, market orented and industry driven. The course focuses on interpersonal, business, technological, academic and scientific communicaiton.

Dr Bethuel Kinyanjui Kinuthia successfully defended his PhD thesis on the 7th of March and graduated on the same day at Leiden University in the Netherlands. He was part of researchers within the Tracking Development project (, a multilateral, international research project on the comparative development trajectories of Southeast Asia and Sub-Saharan Africa over the last 50 years, funded by the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

On 25th March 2013, the largest Cohort of Collaborative Ph.D. Programme in Economics (CPP) students reported to the School to embark on their PhD thesis research. CPP is a collaborative training programme among Sub-Saharan African Universities in the field of postgraduate training in Economics, executed by the African Economic Research Consortium (AERC), with active participation of member universities. Under the programme, the School admits students who proceed to the University of Dar es Salaam for course work, then return to the University of Nairobi to write their PhD theses.

CASELAP has achieved several milestones in terms of growing its numbers. In October 2010, CASELAP admitted the pioneer class to the Master of Arts in Environmental Policy degree programme. Other students were admitted in subsequent intakes to the programme in October 2011 and October 2012. The Centre later launched and admitted students to a Master of Arts in Environmental Law degree programme in October 2011, with the second intake to the programme in October 2012. The Centre also launched a Doctor of Philosophy in Environmental Policy degree programme in October 2011, with the second intake to the programme in October 2012.

The three degree programmes were launched upon due process as established by the governing organs of the University of Nairobi. The school has experienced tremedous growth and the trade doesn't seem to change. We welcome you to join us in this interesting school so that we can grow together.
